The other six days of the week were fantastic

Sunday teas were special: sandwiches cut into little triangles containing cucumber and tomato, salmon and shrimp paste, egg and cress; winkles, prawns, cockles, if you could afford them; salad with whole leaves of lettuce; tomatoes that had insides of sweet tasting seeds and juice; a large pitcher of water in the centre containing the celery which would be sprinkled with salt and crunched along with bread and butter cut very thin. This feast was followed by fruitcake, jam tart, sometimes a trifle.(Ted Blowers)
