Some Local Lads 1950/51

Do you recognise any of the lads?

By Ted Blowers

There was never any shortage of  company. This was Charlie Clark's 17th birthday and we ended up at The Grapes in Wimbledon on this occasion. Would love to hear from anyone who recognises anyone incorrectly named or not named at all. They were a great bunch of guys. Charlie now lives in Australia and myself in Canada. Last year we met again after nearly sixty years and it was just like we had seen each other yesterday. The story of how that happened is a story for another day. As others have said, it was a big community. The different parts of of the estate had their own little communitys yet we all intermingled and had friends from all over the estate - great time, great attitudes.

Seeing this photo clears a problem. Reading contributions from a Ted Blowers I found the sound of the name vaguely familiar but couldn't for certain place it. Now I can. I was at school with this person and I knew Sean Doyle personally and His elder brother Matt by sight and reputation. When I knew Sean he lived in Thornton Road, not far in from the hospital and on the left. Small world! I will in due course send it a school photograph which should interest them rt4544

That's my dad, Harry Muff there and I recognise Matty Doyle. They remained lifelong friends. Sadly, my dad died in 2017 and Matty in 2018. I've passed on the photo to my mum, Lillian, who met him over ten years after this photo was taken, to see if she knows anybody else.
