I was a medical secretary at St Helier from 1969 for several years. I worked as Paediatric Secretary to Dr O'Reilly and then Dr Piesowicz on F Ward. I had no experience when I joined but just loved the job. A great place to work and I made lots of friends there. Ruth Webb was in charge of us and Miss Thomas was the boss of the department.
I too was a medical secretary at St Helier Hospital in the 1970‘s until 1979 But returned in the 1980’s. I worked On F Ward for Dr Alina Piesowicz & Dr Josephine Hammond, Paediatricians. Bette Strong was the Ward Clark on the SCBU where Sister Gilberthorpe was in charge. I returned to work a few years later & worked for Dr Rodin & Dr Hyatt in the Diabetes Centre. Other Medical Secretaries I remember were Margaret Salter & Anne in Orthopaedics, Jo was Dr Eisingers secretary. janet Hughes was in Rheumatology. Sonia & I Worked for Dr Spathis in his medical & endocrinology clinic. I also worked at the Nelson Hospital as the Gynaecology medical Secretary with Joan Bramley (dermatology) & Jenny Carpenter (orthopaedic).
