The County of London (Morden and Carshalton) Housing Order 1925

Order for the purpose of Compulsory Acquisition of Lands

By Beverley Walker

Much of the land that was purchased was rural with some large houses and many cottages also being demolished. This compulsory purchase order gives a good idea of the people that were displaced from their homes and of the landowners that controlled the area. An area covering from the River Wandle to Carshalton along with parts of Sutton and a large tract of land from the parish of Morden combined to form the St. Helier Estate.
